January 25, 2011 Painted Rock Petrogtyph Site

Turkey Vultures, just finishing a meal of desert mule deer
Petrogtyphh painted rock.  These were done about 3000 years ago by the local indians.  The Hohokan Indians lived in this region about 300BC to AD 1450.
Designs depicting the events of the day & time
Ray standing among some of the rocks
Ruth Taking a closer look at the snake carved into the rock
These are the biggest carvings on the very top of the rock pile.  Most all the carvings are done on the south/east side.
This is the interior of the Saugaro cactus or the "skelton"  The wood is very hard once dried and has been used for firewood by the local indians in the past.  It is very difficult to find now and you can't keep these beautiful pieces to transport to Canada.
